Since McKenna was born we've pretty much eaten junk, other than the week my parents visited and fixed normal food. We've eaten take-out pizza, frozen pizza, baked ziti, spaghetti, tacos, firehouse meatball subs, bojangles... It makes me feel fat just thinking about all that we've eaten. Yesterday we went to the farmer's market and got some fresh veggies - green beans, peaches, a tomato, little white potatoes, and some lemon basil. Tonight - an actual well-balanced meal!
When we were in Charleston this past weekend, our last hoo-rah before I get back to the grind of school, we ate at a place called "Poogan's Porch". It was a great "fancy" restaurant located inside an old historic house. I had salmon, cous-cous, and fresh asparagus. Larry had Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, and fresh green beans. The man who NEVER eats anything green, loved the green beans! WAHOO!!!
I've told him since we decided to have kids that I would be the mom I saw once on the show "Supernanny" that fixed 5 meals for dinner - one for the dad, one for the mom, one for the 2 younger children, and 1 for the toddler. AND I really don't want to hear "but Daddy isn't eating them!" I was fortunate enough to have parents that didn't make it an option - I had to eat the spinach on my plate. I can think of quite a few things that I used to hate but now love, all because I kept trying them over and over - potato salad, mustard, onions, spinach, nuts, lemon-flavored desserts. I don't want to have the nightly dinner battle with my family, but more than that, I don't want my kids to miss out on so many wonderful flavors the world has to offer!!
